Production Dates: TBD – 2 consecutive weekends in November
Rehearsals: Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday starting in late August. Rehearsals are held in various locations in Simsbury. Rehearsals in the performance space are limited to the week prior to opening.
Tech week is the week of the show. Move-in to the performance space is the Saturday prior to opening. Rehearsals in performance space are Sunday through Friday evening with an opening on Saturday evening. Pick up rehearsal is Thursday prior to the second weekend.
Auditions: Dates to be determined in June
Responsibilities:
- Create a rehearsal schedule incorporating the needs of the music director and choreographer which will maximize the cast availability, rehearsal times, and provide the best use of available rehearsal facilities.
- Collaborate with musical director and choreographer to develop a clear vision for production.
- Collaborate with production team to develop a clear vision of technical needs and how these needs can be accomplished within the limitations of the performing space. This includes overseeing the many complex pieces of a production – including script, actors, technical components (set, costuming, lights, sound, props), choreography and music – to ensure a unified whole.
- Adhere to the rehearsal schedule as collaborated with the Music Director and Choreographer in order to ensure the production will be ready for presentation on time.
- Work creatively within the production budget
- Provide individual assistance to cast members in developing their characters when necessary
- Communicate regularly with cast and crew members and proactively address their concerns as well as keep the producer informed of any concerns with how the show is progressing
- Understand and support all guidelines of Theatre Guild of Simsbury
- Attend all rehearsals and performances as scheduled.
- Have an active voice at auditions for casting the show
- Attend any board or production meetings as needed
- Previous experience as an Artistic Director of a musical
- Experience directing various age groups preferred
- Ability to coordinate and communicate with large groups of people (cast of 30+, crew, technical).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to deal with multiple priorities at one time
- Ability to maintain communication among the production staff
- Must have strong verbal communication
- Team player: Ability to incorporate the thoughts and ideas of the musical director, choreographer and technical director into the vision.
