The Theatre Guild of
Simsbury is a non-profit organization which was formed in 1972
by a group of Simsbury residents. Our membership now extends throughout
the Farmington Valley and beyond, with campaigning for new memberships
year round.
Each year, in November, we present a 'Broadway' style musical
at the Simsbury High School Auditorium. In addition, in the spring,
we perform Actor's Workshop style Cabarets. At other times during
the year, our Studio Theatre will perform plays, comedies or dramas.
These shows are performed at Eno Memorial Hall.
A
Board of Directors consisting of thirteen members governs TGS.
These volunteers include President, Vice-president, Secretary,
Treasurer and 'at large' members. Their job is to facilitate the
guild in its financial, legal and technical aspects; as well as
advertising and community relations.
Funds are
received through area businesses advertising in our program, personal
patrons and ticket sales, as well as donations. This patronage
enables us to continue our annual productions and help fund scholarships
for students in our community.
The Theatre Guild Scholarship is given to a student of the Simsbury High School graduating class, in recognition of excellence in the performing arts. Donations for this scholarship may be made to the Simsbury Bank or to Theatre Guild of Simsbury, P.O. Box 92, Simsbury, CT 06070
An onstage
cast for our fall musical, usually consists of approximately 30-40
people and is complimented by an orchestra of about 20 musicians.
Additional support includes a full technical staff and nearly
20 volunteers that handle ticket sales, ushering and house management.
TGS holds
auditions in June for their fall musical. Each person should come
prepared to sing a song of their choosing, read from the script
and do some dance movement with the Choreographer. Rehearsals
begin in September on Sunday, Tuesday, with a possible Thursday
evening rehearsal if needed for dance work. Once we move the set
into the High School, the first week of November, rehearsals are
every night for one week, with our performances occurring on the
two weekends before Thanksgiving.
